You Saved My Ass! (literally)

A few weeks ago I posted about my spin class experience and my nether-pain that will now be known as two-by-four syndrome (because spinning without protection is like getting whacked in the bits with a two-by-four).  Over and over.

Your comments were wonderful, and it was pretty much a collective "Get some padded shorts you dummy!".

So padded shorts I got.  I scored some Pearl Izumi shorts from Amazon.com for $38, and I was pretty excited to try them this morning.
This isn't me, but this is exactly how I look in these shorts.  I swear.

The difference was amazing.  I actually enjoyed the class (the lack of 80s power ballads helped a bit) and I definitely feel my form was better because I wasn't constantly readjusting or rounding my back to take the pressure off of my bum.

I can't say I'm in love with spinning, but I'm not dreading next week's class.

After class I got in some swimming, and now am officially more than half done with KDUB's half-Ironman challenge.  Pretty excited.

To balance out all of those super healthy activities, I came home and made a pretty good dent in a bag of powdered sugar mini-donuts.

Do you feel entitled to a little culinary indulgence after a good workout?

What's the food you sometimes eat a bit too much of?

  1. I'm glad the shorts are working their magic!
Post workout I feel all detoxed and am reluctant to ruin that with bad food. That said, there's been plenty of bad food in my life lately. I'm talking to you chocolate covered almonds, cupcakes...ok I won't go on.

  2. That picture is exactly how I look in tight stretchy compression shorts too. We're like leg twins.

After a good workout I'm more craving water than sweets. But as soon as I have a good meal I'm ready for some delicious chocolate!

  3. I got me some padded shorts yesterday so I hope I get them in time for my cycling class next week!

I feel so guilty having anything delicious after working out so hard. I do it sometimes, and actually after last nights work out at the Y I had the exact same donuts. Then I had some crackers...and then some left over dinner....and then I thought how I probably just ate ALL the calories back that I just burned off. Bummer.

  7. I could definitely use a pair of those shorts! I'm still using longer shorts (no thigh chafing, yay!) but would definitely appreciate some padding.

  10. Nice! I indulge in candy. All the time. Screw the tough workout part. And I love butter. Lots and lots of butter.

  11. I fortunately (unfortunately??) have enough padding built in to not need shorts :)
Glad you found ones that work!

  12. I actually crave healthy food after a long run (though I will admit to a weakness for chocolate milk). For instance, today after my run I cut up a green pepper to enjoy with some dill dip :)
This is why exercise is so crucial for me with weight loss. If I'm working out, I don't want to "wreck" it with garbage, as others have said.

Oh, BTW, I have never worn non-skirt bike shorts in public. I doubt I ever will. Get down with your body-confident self!

  13. I stopped at Starbucks after my run today and wanted a donut SO BADLY. But somehow I found the willpower to order an egg-white wrap. But I couldn't have resisted those little powdered sugar donuts. Yum!
