The List

Here it is, Part I of my list of goals.

  1. Get a double scoop of ice cream.
    • You know, in all of my 27 years on this earth, I've never gotten a double scoop ice cream, and I always imagine all of the different flavor possibilities partying in my mouth.  Dream big!
  2. Post video of my own acoustic guitar cover on Youtube.
    • I've been teaching myself guitar since April of this year, and I'd like to join the Youtube community that has been so instrumental (haha, get it? Instrumental?) in helping me learn by posting one of my own videos.  This is one of the very scariest goals on this list.
  3. Run a 5k in under 23 minutes.
    • Current PR is 23:17.
  4. Run a marathon.
    • Possibly the Fox Cities Marathon in September next year.
  5. Run a marathon faster than Oprah.
    • Can someone tell me how this woman ran sub-4:30?
  6. Run a half marathon in under 1:50.
    • Current PR 1:59.
  7. Run a 10k in under 50 minutes.
    • Current PR 50:xx.
  8. Write a post on grief.
    • I have had the life-changing experience of suffering tremendous grief this past year, and I feel like it's one of those things people just don't talk about.  Perhaps we can all gain something - empathy, solace, knowledge.. something by talking about it.
  9. Ski out west.
    • I love downhill skiing, but have only skied in the Midwest.  My mom used to ski in Colorado, and I've always dreamed of taking a trip out west to commune with the mountains.
  10. Bake perfect sandwich bread from scratch.
    • I cook almost everything from scratch and I'm a little ashamed to admit I can't make bread.  Every time I buy bread at the grocery store I yell at myself a bit for not being able to make it myself.
I'll conclude this deep post with some more deep thoughts.... from Jack Handey.

To me, truth is not some vague, foggy
notion. Truth is real. And, at the
same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and
everything in between, plus some things
I can't remember, all rolled into one
big "thing." This is truth to me.
--Jack Handey

If a kid asks where rain comes from,
I think a cute thing to tell him is
'God is crying'.  And if he asks why
God is crying, another cute thing to tell
him is 'Probably because of something
 you did.'

  1. This is an excellent list. Damn Oprah is fast. I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to beat her.

  2. ummm love that goal list! and those quotes are amazing. also...i think a post on grief would be something a lot of people could relate to...it is interesting to me that we just don't talk about that stuff very much!

  4. Great goals. We all grieve, and we all benefit from each other. I'll be patiently awaiting that post. Have you ever read the blog "Bring the Rain" by Angie Smith? You should. It's amazing. She's amazing, and that girl powered through some serious grief and was completely honest about it. Her site used to be http://audreycaroline.blogspot.com. It may have changed. Try it and read Audrey's story.

    You are awesome.

  6. Wanna do the Whistlestop Marathon with me next October?

I was going to do one in NC, but then I remembered that I'm broke and decided to do Whistlestop instead. It's rails to trails, so pretty...also downhill. WIN!

Might I suggest Chocolate and Mint Chip for your double scoop?

Also, I can bake bread. One of the few things I do well is bake. Too bad carbs are my mortal enemy.
