The Countdown and a Winner!

Happy Wednesday to all of you fine folks out there.

I've been a sporadic blogger the past few weeks because I am crabby and bummed out, and there's only so much whining you can do in a day.

To all of you who commented on my bummer of a post last week, thank you so much.  When I started this blog, I expected it to be an outlet for my rants and a place to document my training; I never could have anticipated the love and support I feel from this community.  It's wonderful.

As a lot of you know - I've been not running due to a stress fracture in my femur since mid-August.  I've done two or three short walk/runs over the past month, but after some nagging pain in my femur returned, I've been doing NOTHING.  Seriously, I even skipped my swim lesson last night.  I feel like I could stay on the couch for days at a time.

Anyway, I spoke with my orthopaedic surgeon two weeks ago (well, actually his nurse), and I was instructed to begin a "slow return to running" on December 4th.  I love when doctors pull dates out of their asses.  "Hmmm... looks like in exactly 241 hours your femur will be healed".  And I haven't gotten any direction as far as what a "slow return to running" means, so I'm going to follow Pfitzinger's stress fracture recovery program, only spaced out a bit more.  Also, I'm not sure if any achiness or other sensation in the femur is normal, or if I should stop if I feel anything.

Needless to say, I'm not thrilled with the quality of care I'm getting, but I am counting down the days until Sunday when I can run.  I'll write about every single minute in agonizing detail for you, don't worry.  :)

So that's that!

Now, in giveaway news, I have a seriously awesome giveaway coming up tomorrow, and I get to announce the winner of the Handful... right now!

Drumroll please........

The winner is

Check your email and I'll get you in contact with Handful!

Have a super Wednesday!

  1. When you are ready...I will run with you :) I am lacking motivation because I have to pump myself up so much to get out in the cold every night. Brr. I warm up by mile two and my times have been good for me but it's seriously a challenge telling myself to get out there each.and.every.night.

  2. Uhhhh, that seems a bit crazy?! Doesn't it to you? Maybe she likes that day, or the number 4? Who knows......Anyways, hopefully you will be able to follow the program that the Dr. didn't give you and you can get back in the swing of things.

  3. friend! i can totally relate to how frustrating it is when recovering from an injury. you just want to be able to run again and then you are unsure of whats an "okay" feeling and what isn't. thinking of you as you continue to heal. good luck during your run this weekend! looking forward to hearing how it goes!

  4. i had great luck with the pfizaainger (did i spell that right?) RtR plan, and also spaced it out more than the original plan. i had mild achiness at the stress fx site but only for the first week. it was nothing like the acute pain of the actual fracture. listen to your body and take it slow. 12/4 is just four days away now, girl!

  5. Aw, I hope your road back goes smoothly. Injuries are so hard!!

  6. I feel the same way heading back into running. I've had three weeks with no walking/running - and I do mean NONE. I work from home, so getting up to pee is all the walking I do. I'm a little anxious about starting back up again- it will likely be this weekend for me too! Good luck and keep us posted on how the first run/walk back goes!

  7. I so feel for you! I know how depressing it is to not be out there doing what you love! I think you aren't getting the quality of care you deserve. I think you need to get in there and demand a little more attention. Something is wrong when you are having to research your own recovery plan. Maybe he can give you a cut of his pay!! Hope on the 4th you can start to return to running pain free. I will be a few weeks behind you!

  8. Ugh! It sucks when you know the one thing that will make you feel better is out of your reach. Happy to hear the doc arbitrarily chose this Sunday to say you are healed!
OH! I mentioned you in my new blog today :)

  9. Dude I like you easing back into running plan and you're being smart about it. I can relate to your bummer tude and I pretty much think you're the bomb ass shit... whether you're running or not. That being said, I hope the running comes back naturally and brings you that kind of happiness we all chase. xo
ps: if you need to be a debbie downer, come on over to my blog. whiners are always welcome.

  10. I can't wait to read all the gory details of your first run back! Good for you for doing the research on a good return plan. What a doofus doc!

  11. This. Bra has changed my life. I don't think I'll ever take it off. Like...ever! Thanks for the giveaway!
